A handful of artists collected at an art workshop in 2008 and expressed the need of an Art and Cultural Centre in Dehradun. With consumerism hitting at every step and happiness alluding with every breath, the need was felt for a place to recollect emotions in tranquility. Hence, the Doon Art Society was born at 44-B, East Canal Road, Dehradun on 8-8-2008. Soon the society gathered in strength and meetings were held on the last Friday of every month at Uttaranchal Gramin Bank. The Society has strength of about 50 members now. Since its inception, art workshops have been held at Pauri (Garhwal), group shows at Raj Bhawan, UGB Art Gallery, Dehradun. Solo exhibitions have been held by many artists of National eminence, in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and D.Dun etc. In 2008 and 2009 DAS held annual exhibitions at Hotel Regent and Doon University, Dehradun. The DAS has matured into an aesthetes paradise. A new world of meaning is expressed in terms of abiding beauty, be it in sculpture, painting, writing or music. DAS loves building castles in the air and it says our work is not lost for that is where they should be, and now we are putting foundations under them.
