E mails with a link about a lady named Amy Livingston of Dehra Dun who makes $15,000 to $17,000 a month working from home are doing the rounds of the internet. When DehradunBuzz received one such email, we decided investigate the truth about it. We clicked on the link and landed on a perfectly legitimate and authentic looking website of a news channel called News Now 15. On the home page, was an article about a lady called Amy Livingston who lives in Dehra dun and makes Rs 7,50,000 plus per month staying at home! (See picture below)

This is what Amy from Dehradun had to share when asked by Julie how she did it: "It was pretty easy, I actually received an email that sparked my interest, so I went to the site, filled out a short form and signed up for a work at home program where I got instant access to everything! Since they offered a 365 Day Money Back Guarantee - I figured I really had nothing to lose. So, I started the program and within four weeks I was making over $5,000 a month. It's really simple, I am not a computer whiz, but I can use the internet. I followed the instructions, and I don't even have to sell anything and nobody has to buy anything. This is a very stable system and they are recruiting, you should try it."

How easy! How convenient! Amy and Julie are generous enough to share the link with one and all so that everybody can make the kind of moolah Amy is raking in! We click on the link given in the Exclusive Story that invites one to try the Online Income System (see adjoining picture). But much to our surprise we are redirected to a website of a reputed deal site which wants us to fill a form giving our personal contact details and e mail id. It does not seem to have any relation to any online income system. Intrigued, we then clicked on all the links on the website including News, Health, Living, Entertainment, Travel, Sports. None of them went to the relevant category. All redirected to different websites, mostly offering deals.

Aha! We had figured out the catch!! The News Now 15 website was a fake website. In fact it had nothing to do with the news channel News Now 15. The primary motive of the fake website was email harvesting! The trick was to get a large number of people to sign up thinking they will make money like Amy Livingston of Dehradun whereas the real motive was to acquire information. This is called phishing. Phishing is attempting to acquire information (and sometimes, indirectly, money) such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication. Phishing is typically carried out by e-mail spoofing or instant messaging, and it often directs users to enter details at a fake website whose look and feel are almost identical to the legitimate one.

Well, this is the truth about Amy Livingston of Dehradun who makes $15,000 to $17,000 a month working from home! In fact there is no Amy Livingston in Dehradun and no such moolah raking online income system. It is the work of a smart con artist who has made this fake website of News Now 15 look authentic. Many have forwarded the link of the website to their friends thinking it will help them earn an extra buck. Incidents like these happen everyday and many times the victim is not even aware that he has fallen for a phishing scam. Attempts to deal with the growing number of reported phishing incidents include legislation, user training, public awareness, and technical security measures. So friends, if you receive such emails telling you about quick money making schemes that sound too good to be true then beware, generally they are not!
